Hepatica or now Anemone
americana
is one of my favorite
wildflowers. Pictured is a seedling
of a seedling of a seedling that I
brought with me from North
Carolina in 1995 called (cleverly)
'NC Marbled' for the pattern of
the leaves
. It flowers in earliest
spring and both the buds and
leaves are covered with long hairs
that trap heat and may also ward
off frost. A lovely species for light
shade
