Hepatica or now Anemone americana is one of my favorite wildflowers. Pictured is a seedling of a seedling of a seedling that I brought with me from North Carolina in 1995 called (cleverly) 'NC Marbled' for the pattern of the leaves. It flowers in earliest spring and both the buds and leaves are covered with long hairs that trap heat and may also ward off frost. A lovely species for light shade |
